As from my previous post last week, Ju, Intan and me went for a good laugh-out-loud movie 'Los dan Faun'. I know some readers of my blog don't really like Malay movie/never supported any Malay movie/don't even care for the existence of Malay movie. To watch it through TiVo is good enough then. But is it so much of 'mengangkat industri filem tempatan'?
True enough it's a bit dissapointment as we always criticise about Malay movie; not enough this, not enough that, too unreallistic, and so much of negativeness. But hopefully all the bashing out will later produce a better piece, I hope so! So all Malay film-maker, Don't give up!
As I've mentioned earlier, in my opinion 'Los dan Faun' was not Afdlin's best piece. But we enjoyed all the moment (I meant it, every moment) while watching it. :)
So here my review.
The story tells of 2 best friends, Carlos Rodrigo Gunting (I don't know what he is, Serani kot!) a.k.a Los and Ahmad Faun Bin Ismail a.k.a Faun, who decides to find their life destiny in KL. One day while working in a lingerie shop, Los discovers that Faun has a talent for finding lost items. Thus, they both set up a business to help people locate anything that are missing - and I really do mean anything (hilang sabar pun diorang boleh cari kot! Haha, Nell Ng rocks that one scene). They meet with Jasmin who trying to locate her late husband Tuan Sofar's expensive watch (rm30 juta okeh!). However, while Faun trying to do his 'thingy' to locate the whereabouts of the watch, he finds that his powers are strangely affected - or I might say, not working!
The investigative comedy introduces something fresh to the Malaysian industry, as we don't normally see this on Malaysian big screen. It's nothing like Hollywood's Pink Panther or Inspector Gadget that's for sure. But I might say, Good try! The comedy behind it is absolutely hilarious with a combination of slapstick and intelligent humour (there are also some not-so-intelligent humour like the 'coli' part!). There is also a read-in-between-the-lines bit involving gay-cowboy movie the Brokeback Mountain that make us LOL.
Of all the praises (ops!) mentioned, one big letdown for the film is how complicated the ending is. There is a heavy explanation involved in the end, the information given in a scene is too much to handle as it gets lost in translation while watching it. I've lost too but I've tried to catch up till the end. :)
p/s: Afdlin to me is still one of the kings of comedy in Malaysia. I'm still LOL over that hilarious sofa company - SoFar SoGood Sdn Bhd, (ye ke? lupa dah!) owned by Tuan Sofaruddin Al Sogood which played by him. I had a good laugh! :) Hilang stress!
